We are very proud to have as our guest speaker Diane Douglas current Arizona Superintendent of Public instruction. She was elected to her first term Nov 4, 2014 edging out her Democratic opponent, David Garcia by 1 percentage point. She took office January 5, 2015 succeeding incumbent John Huppenthal. She defeated him for the party’s nomination in the Republican primary on Aug 26, 2014.
Diane is now running for re-election for this same office up against Dr. Robert Branch, and Frank Riggs whom we’ll have at a later date to come and speak.
As a recap, prior to serving as Superintendent of Public Instruction, Diane worked in accounting and financial analysis for several local firms. She has spoken at conferences sponsored by Az Right to Live and American’s for Prosperity. She has an A.A. in business from Somerset County College, and a B.A. in Business and marketing from Rutgers University.
Diane Douglas is currently calling for tax increases to help pay for Teacher pay increases. This would be a permanent extension and expansion of Prop 301, a sales tax to fund public education that expires after 2020.
